Disclaimer

All characters are fictional. If we accidentally used the name of someone who does in fact exist and this causes a problem, please let us know so that we can rectify it.

Submit a Story!

Tone Nine News wants YOUR submissions! Submitting a story is easy:
  • First off, write a story (see below).
  • Then, click the facebook badge to your right. Consider clicking the "Like" button too.
  • Send a message to us with your story. Please include the name you want credited (either your name or a pseudonym. "The Byzantine Bandit" is never an acceptable pseudonym. There can only be one). If you do not include a name, we will publish the story crediting your exact facebook name at the time of publication (so watch out: if your name on facebook is Steven Boogers Smith, that is how we'll publish it).
  • We'll get back to you soon telling you if and when your story will be published!
  • TNN reserves the right to reject any story for any reason whatsoever. Understand that we currently have several staff members who will each have a say in whether or not we publish a story.
  • A rejected story may be resubmitted with changes after 7 days from the time notice was sent informing you of the story's rejection.

Guidelines for Writing Stories
  • Stories should only use fictional characters.
    • The use of the names of living priests (for the theological nit-pickers, here we mean priests who have not been elevated to the episcopate) or actual bishops who are now living or have lived within the past 50 years is strictly prohibited (no references to Archbishop William Skurla, whether laudatory or derogatory, for example).
    • It is recommended that the location of eparchial seats be changed in the story (so, no references to the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, but a reference to the Archeparchy of Jacob's Creek would be acceptable).
  • Use "eparchy" to refer to a Byzantine bishopric and "diocese" to refer to a Roman bishopric; use the appropriate term for the bishopric of any other rite.
  • Pope Bonaventure is the name of the bishop of Rome for TNN stories. Any other so-called popes will be treated as anti-popes, schismatics, heretics, etc. as the case may be. This rule applies in the case of other bishops, too.
  • Heresy will not be tolerated. We do have guys with post-secondary theological education on the staff.
  • No using the names of actual groups.
  • You may write about any group or character featured in our "Useable Characters" section, but the author who first wrote about that character will decide whether or not that is an acceptable use of that character.
  • Do not change a character's opinion on something in another story that you did not write. For example, if Bishop Joseph condemns ECAP for some reason in one story, he cannot praise them for the same reason in another story.
  • Be charitable.

Formatting Notes
Since facebook messaging does not currently support formatting to our knowledge, we ask that you observe the following:
  • Use /forward slashes/ around text that you want us to put in italics.
  • Use *asterisks* around text that you want in bold.
  • Use _underscores_ around text that you want underlined.
  • NEVER use "quotation marks" for emphasis. EVER. Use italics or bold.
  • If you want something in a different font size, indicate this with the size and text in brackets. We are able to put texts in the following sizes, relative to our normal text size:
    • [-2]
    • [-1]
    • [0 (normal)]
    • [+1]
    • [+2]
    • So, for example, say you wanted a sentence to be really big. You would type [+2 This sentence is really big.] and we would render it This sentence is really big.
  • If facebook does support any of this formatting, feel free to use it. It may save us a good deal of trouble.
Legal Thing 1.0
In submitting a story to Tone Nine News (TNN), you accept the following:
  • You are granting TNN permission to copy your story onto our website/blog (whatever tone9news.blogspot.com is considered) and wherever else and in whatever medium we please including, but not limited to: print, sound, and any other file type.
  • You also grant us permission to allow others to print your story, but they may only print it under the same conditions enumerated here.
  • You will be credited with authorship wherever the story is posted under the name you give us when you submit your story. Special cases will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
  • You will make no claim on any compensation from TNN, including its staff, for any reason whatsoever.
  • You remain free to make a profit on the story in any other way.
  • You have the right to copy our copy of your story (and only your story) and publish it as your own wherever you please, whether for profit or not.
  • You affirm that you (and TNN) have permission to print any copyrighted material contained in your story.
  • You have the right to contact us in order to obtain a list of places your story has been published.
  • You acknowledge that our list of places your story has been published may not be complete, and you agree not to make any sort of fuss, legal or otherwise, about this.
  • You will be bound by the "Legal Thing" in effect on the date you submit your story.
  • You agree not to cause any sort of trouble for TNN or its staff, legal or otherwise, about anything involving your story.
  • Characters and/or groups you invent will not be added to the "Useable Characters" section unless you explicitly permit us to add them and provide us with a description of the relevant character/group.
  • Incidents you write about become part of the history of TNN, and may be referenced by or influence other events on TNN without your permission and without you having any claim on the new story or any profits made from it.
  • You understand that we will be be trying to use our common sense when handling your story and realize that all this is probably unnecessary because we will probably just publish your story online, link to it on our facebook site, and not much else but feel that it may be prudent to put these legal safeguards in place just in case.
